Spalted Spanish Oak Salado Twist Pen

This twist pen is made from spalted Spanish Oak. Spalting occurs when nature begins to break down wood and is caused by a fungus. Spalting can change the look of the wood in a number of ways. It can change the color of some of the grain giving the wood a mottled appearance, and it can generate black stripes that run throughout the wood. It can also make some woods soft, or "punky". To offset this effect this wood has been "stabilized". The stabilization process forces a resin throughout the wood making it much more dense.
